Kermit the Frog’s “It’s Not Easy Being Green” explores the complexity of living the life the same color of the leaves. However, during the song he realizes that green is the color to be. He ends the tune with: “I am green, and it’ll do fine. It’s beautiful, and I think it’s what I want to be.” This spring, you can be green too – well, at least your thumb can be! With one day (yes, one day) left till the official start of spring, we are talking gardens.

We are little obsessed with closets right now. This spring, Professor and Chair of Fashion, and Historic Costume Collection Curator Dr. Connie Korosec will be presenting at our 15th Annual Faculty Lecture Series, “The Best Closet in Cleveland: 30th Anniversary of the Historic Costume Collection.” The College will celebrate fashion thirty years in the making and over 3,500 pieces of 20th Century American fashion, donated by Greater Clevelanders. The lecture (free and open to the public) will be held Tuesday, April 8th at 7PM in the Mullen Little Theater. It’s our very own piece of of women’s history!

Service learning is defined as a method of teaching that combines classroom instruction with meaningful community service. Many of our students are participating in service learning trips over spring break, including the Art Therapy and Counseling Service Trip to Ecuador and H.E.L.P. Malawi trip.  You can lend a helping hand too – in your own backyard! Cleveland is full of spring related volunteering opportunities, whether you walk a dog or clean up a park, every little thing can make a difference.

Many fashion students and alumnae also work in retail and can offer insight into world of buying and selling in the fashion industry.

Vanessa Feldkamp is a senior majoring in Fashion Merchandising at Ursuline College.  She is also the sales lead manager at The Limited.  Vanessa explains that she applies a lot of what she learned in May Beard’s Retail Buying classes: “May Beard’s class taught me to take a deeper look into the psychology of the target customer. I’ve also learned to analyze why a product didn’t sell.”

This helps Vanessa and her team to assist the customer in her shopping experience. “Also, by knowing what our customers likes we can drive sales in our stores,” Vanessa said.
