Junior sprinter Keyana Roberts named ‘Conference Athlete of the Week’

Ursuline College junior sprinter Keyana Roberts has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday (April 8) afternoon.

She received the honor for her performance at the Bob Kahn Invitational, hosted last Saturday (April 5) by Oberlin College.

Nicole Burlinson Reflects on Earning All-American Honor

Ursuline College cross country/track and field coach Ralph White can be a very convincing person. On a recent trip to the NCAA Indoor National Championships with sophomore Nicole Burlinson, White talked a cleaning lady at a hotel into allowing Burlinson to use the pool so she could get loose between her running workouts.

Burlinson, White and assistant coach Maddy Outman were in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in mid-March because from the moment Burlinson stepped foot on campus in August of 2012, White convinced her she could become an All-American.

Commit to wellness with Ursuline’s Arrows Walking Club

When I came to Ursuline to coach cross country and track and field in 2012, I saw a small school with a close-knit community who cares about helping each and every student. I also saw a community that cares about helping those less fortunate through prayer and service. My son has long been an advocate and activist for clean water and sanitation initiatives in Africa, and I saw an opportunity to help this worthy cause, get the name of Ursuline College out, engage the community, and benefit the health and wellness of our own community through a fundraising race. This idea became Ursuline’s annual Walk for Water, and from that idea the Arrows Walking Club was launched.

Ursuline College sophomore Nicole Burlinson named Division II All-American

Ursuline College sophomore Nicole Burlinson (Darlington, Great Britain) ran a school record time of 2:10.67 in the 800 meter finals at the NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday (March 15) evening, good for a fifth place finish. By virtue of scoring four team points, she earned NCAA Division II All-American honors.

There are nearly 1,500 student-athletes who compete in the 800 meter run during the course of the year and only 17 qualified for this weekend’s National Championships. To see the results from the 800 meter final, click here.

Lacrosse team wins debut at Wilmington College, 21-2

The Ursuline College lacrosse program won its debut on Sunday (March 9) afternoon, defeating host Wilmington College by a score of 21-2.

The Quakers slipped to 0-3 on the young year after losses to Beloit (21-7) and Alma (21-3) earlier this week.

Freshman Natalie Pachinger led the Arrows with six goals and an assist while her classmate Anika Aberegg added four goals and a helper.

Ursuline trio honored by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference

Three members of the Ursuline College basketball program were honored by the Great Midwest Athletic Conference on Tuesday (March 4) afternoon. Point guard Erica Huber was named the conference’s ‘Freshman of the Year,’ while junior forward Emma Ricketts and freshman wing Tajanee Wells were each named second team all-conference.

Huber also earned honorable mention status after a vote of the conference’s nine head coaches.

Kentucky Wesleyan senior guard Karly Rhoads took home the Great Midwest Athletic Conference ‘Player of the Year’ Award and Gary Van Atta, the head coach of regular season champion Trevecca Nazarene University, earned the ‘Coach of the Year’ honor.

Ursuline Alumnae inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame

Ursuline College athletic department is proud to announce Meghann Hess (volleyball) and Jessica Wood (basketball), both 2009 graduates, will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on May 4, 2014 at Hathaway Brown School.

The pair makes up the fifth induction class into the Hall of Fame, which was started in 2010 in an effort to bring attention to those who left a significant mark on Ursuline athletics. The Hall of Fame aims to recognize student-athletes who produced significant athletic achievement, but also those who excelled in the classroom and contributed time and service to the community.

Athletic Director Cindy McKnight chosen to serve as mentor in NCAA program

Ursuline College Athletic Director Cindy McKnight has been chosen to serve as a mentor in the 2014-15 NCAA & Division II Athletics Directors Association Mentor Program for Women & Minorities.

In July of 2011, Division II took the initiative to prepare women and minorities for future director of athletics positions by sponsoring a mentorship program. Partnering with the Division II Athletics Directors Association, this mentoring program matches promising women and minority administrators who hope to become athletics directors with proven athletics directors.

Ursuline College sophomore Nicole Burlinson has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, the conference office announced Tuesday (Feb. 11) afternoon.

Burlinson received the honor for her performance at the Division II Challenge Meet, hosted by the SPIRE Institute on Saturday (Feb. 8).

She beat the other 26 participants in the mile with a school record time of 5:07.50. She was previously the record holder with her 5:09.31 at Youngstown State two weeks ago. Saturday’s time was just 2.5 seconds shy of the NCAA Division II provisional qualification standard.

Sophomore Bea Indurain Named G-MAC Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week

Ursuline College sophomore Bea Indurain has been named the Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday (Feb. 4) morning. She is the second different Arrow to win the award this year after classmate Nicole Burlinson received the honor twice (Dec. 10, 2013 and Jan. 21, 2014).

Indurain was recognized for her performance at the Midwest Open, hosted Saturday (Feb. 1) at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

In the 60 meter hurdles prelims, she took eighth of 43 participants to qualify for the finals with her time of 9.23. In the finals, her 9.21 was good for seventh.
